Alshaa League in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has been named the "World Camel Milk Capital" at the 2026 International Conference of the International Society of Camelid Research and Development, marking a milestone in the league's efforts to build a globally recognized camel industry.

Held from Sept 8 to 13 in Alshaa Right Banner, the conference is being hosted in China for the first time, bringing together experts, industry professionals, and business representatives from 21 countries.

During the event, delegates are scheduled to visit camel farms and processing facilities, observing the full production chain from fresh milk collection and cold-chain preservation to deep processing. They also learn about local efforts to conserve camel genetic resources, develop standardized milk sources, and strengthen quality control.

The industry is underpinned by the league's Bactrian camel resources, which have adapted to the arid conditions and natural forage of the Gobi and desert areas. Alshaa camel milk is characterized by its relatively high protein and fat content, small fat particles, and a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids.

Supported by the Inner Mongolia Camel Research Institute, Alshaa Right Banner has developed an integrated industrial chain covering camel breeding, research, processing, and marketing. Five major product categories – camel milk, camel wool, camel meat, cosmetics, and leisure foods – now include 136 products.

The industry has also continued to expand in scale. Alshaa Right Banner now has more than 82,000 Bactrian camels. In 2025, the banner produced more than 15,000 metric tons of camel milk, while the total output value of its camel industry exceeded 2.5 billion yuan ($373.13 million).

Local companies are expanding their presence in both domestic and international markets. In China, they have established sales channels in major cities and through e-commerce platforms such as JD.com and Tmall. Overseas, cross-border platforms including Amazon are being used to promote Alshaa's camel products to a wider global market.

Faisal Saleh Almathen, associate professor at King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia, praised the variety of Alshaa camel products. He also expressed interest in expanding cooperation between Inner Mongolia and Saudi Arabia by sharing experience in camel industry development.
