Track laying has begun on the Gashu Sukhait–Ganqimaodu Railway, the second cross-border railway linking China and Mongolia.

China and Mongolia are jointly constructing the project under the principle of "unified design, separate construction, and one-time connection," with construction beginning in May 2025.

The 33.5-kilometer railway will feature two parallel track gauges: a 1,520-millimeter broad gauge and a 1,435-mm standard gauge. The dual-gauge design will allow trains from both countries to cross the border directly without changing wheels or transferring cargo, reducing border congestion and significantly shortening customs clearance times.

All major substructure work, including pile foundations, pile caps, and piers, has been completed. Bridge erection is expected to be finished by October, with all track laying scheduled for completion by the end of this year.

Upon completion, the railway is expected to handle up to 30 million metric tons of cargo annually, connecting China's Ganqimaodu-Wanshuiquan Railway with Mongolia's southern railway network and further facilitating trade and infrastructure connectivity between the two countries.
