NE China's first UHV power corridor exports over 300 billion kWh

The cumulative electricity transmitted through the ±800-kilovolt Jaruug converter station in Inner Mongolia autonomous region has exceeded 300 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), according to State Grid East Inner Mongolia Electric Power Co.

The amount is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of about 100 million households, while helping save approximately 95 million metric tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 250 million tons.

As the first ultra-high-voltage (UHV) power transmission corridor for exporting electricity from Northeast China, the Jaruug-Qingzhou ±800 kV UHV direct-current transmission project delivers clean electricity generated in Inner Mongolia to East China's Shandong province, a major power-consuming region, helping ease local power supply pressures while improving environmental benefits.

The 1,234-kilometer project runs from Jaruug Banner in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia, to Guanggu in Weifang, Shandong province, passing through Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Tianjin, and Shandong.

With a rated transmission capacity of 10 million kilowatts, it began construction in August 2016 and entered operation in December 2017, completing construction in just 16 months.

The project is one of eight UHV transmission corridors operated by State Grid East Inner Mongolia Electric Power Co.

Through these corridors, Inner Mongolia exports clean electricity to Shandong, Tianjin, Jiangsu, and other regions. To date, the region's UHV grid has transmitted more than 950 billion kWh of electricity, saving about 299 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 789 million tons.
