The Inner Mongolia Department of Culture and Tourism and China Railway Hohhot Bureau have announced the launch of two themed tourist trains, set to begin services during the upcoming May Day holiday.
The two trains depart from the regional capital Hohhot, heading respectively toward Tongliao city and Ejine Banner, linking a diverse range of landscapes, including grasslands, forests, wetlands, deserts, and border areas, marking the start of the region's peak tourism season.
The "Grassland Train" showcases the vitality and openness of the vast grasslands, while the "Desert Poplar Train" focuses on desert scenery and the striking beauty of desert poplar forests.
Both trains feature unified visual designs across their exteriors, interiors, and onboard elements, creating an immersive cultural experience from the moment passengers board.

Designed as more than just a means of transportation, the trains serve as "mobile scenic corridors" and "travel showcases". Their routes integrate railway lines with A-level tourist attractions, nearby urban services, and regional destinations, offering flexible itineraries that combine daytime sightseeing with overnight stays.
The initiative is expected to boost domestic tourism in the region, catering to growing demand for short-distance trips, weekend getaways, and more immersive travel experiences.
