Sanpangdan, a well-known sunflower seed brand in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has become a household name among snack lovers. But for Xu Jianxing, chairman of Sanpangdan (Inner Mongolia) Food Technology Group, brand success is only part of a broader vision.

As a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) from the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Xu hopes the country will provide stronger guidance and support in brand cultivation and promotion, helping local brands grow stronger and enabling more specialty products from the grasslands to reach consumers nationwide. He raised similar suggestions during last year's third session of the 14th National People's Congress.

This year, Xu is focusing on agricultural insurance, calling for greater policy support and higher coverage standards to ensure insurance truly safeguards rural industries and protects farmers' interests. His suggestion stems from extensive grassroots research and field visits, with Xu saying, "Only by going deep into communities and listening to people can we truly understand their needs and solve their pressing concerns."

Through year-round fieldwork spanning spring planting to autumn harvest, Xu has tracked farmers’ production conditions and challenges. Last year, after flooding affected parts of Bayannuur city, he visited Wuyuan county to assess the damage and speak directly with affected farmers. The experience deepened his understanding of the hardships faced by rural households and reinforced his commitment to practical policy recommendations.

In addition to agricultural insurance, Xu plans to suggest including fresh corn in the national grain industry catalog so it can benefit from supportive agricultural policies, aiming to strengthen this characteristic industry and help farmers increase incomes.

With the annual national two sessions approaching, Xu said he feels both hopeful and deeply aware of his responsibilities, and has pledged to bring "grassroots, down-to-earth suggestions" to the national legislature while delivering favorable national policies back to local communities, striving to serve as a people-centered deputy in the new era.
