The "Bright Action" public-welfare program in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has provided surgeries for 41,745 impoverished cataract patients and 602 children with strabismus over the past decade.

Launched in 2015 by the Inner Mongolia Guangcai Promotion Association, the Inner Mongolia Red Cross Society, and the Laoniu Charity Foundation, the program brings together education, finance, and health authorities.

It fully covers examination and surgery costs through a three-tier support system of medical insurance reimbursement, hospital fee reductions, and financial subsidies from the organizing committee, significantly easing the financial burden on low-income families with eye diseases.

Over the past 10 years, the program has screened over 1.53 million cataract patients and conducted vision tests for 3.02 million children and adolescents, establishing vision-health records and ensuring that assistance reaches those most in need.

Looking ahead, the organizing committee will launch a new “Eye-Care Cabin” initiative. Pilot centers will be set up in three schools in Hohhot, Chifeng, and Ordos to provide science-based eye-health education and hands-on learning experiences, supporting efforts to prevent myopia among young people.
