Hexigten Global Geopark wins UNESCO award
The Hexigten Global Geopark in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region received the 2025 Best Practice Award from the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network at the 11th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks, which was held in Chile on Sept 10.
The award, presented every two years, is based on expert field evaluations, application materials, and review by the Global Geoparks Network Executive Board. It recognizes innovative development initiatives in geoparks worldwide, offering models that help to strengthen sustainable development across the network.
This year, five geoparks worldwide received the honor. Since its establishment in 2005, Hexigten Global Geopark has aligned closely with the UN's 17 sustainable development goals, advancing geological heritage protection, climate response, science education, and community development.
The recognition highlights both the international standing of Hexigten Global Geopark and China's commitment to the principle that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".
