Public welfare campaign brings sight to Mongolian patients
The 2025 "Belt and Road · Brightness Journey" initiative carried out its latest humanitarian mission from June 21 to 22 in Ereenhot city, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, offering free cataract surgeries to 120 patients from the Mongolian People's Republic.
Jointly organized by the Red Cross Societies of Inner Mongolia and Mongolia, the campaign aimed to restore vision and improve the quality of life across borders.
Two mobile cataract surgery units and a skilled medical team were dispatched, with procedures conducted at the Ereenhot People's Hospital.
"I'm so happy to see again," said Batsur, a Mongolian patient. "I'm very grateful to China and the doctors for this life-changing opportunity."
Since its launch, the Brightness Journey in Mongolia has screened 3,592 patients and performed 645 free cataract surgeries, restoring sight to many and bringing light back into their lives.
Hashen, a senior official with the Inner Mongolia Red Cross Society, noted that the campaign reflects China's commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative and regional cooperation. "It's a symbol of the deepening humanitarian ties between China and Mongolia – every participant is a witness to the spirit of cross-border compassion."
