In August 2012, the airports where Alshaa Left Banner, Alshaa Right Banner and Ejine Banner are located started construction at the same time, and were officially opened to traffic on Dec 17, 2013. 

By the end of 2020, Alshaa Sanqi Airport had guaranteed 40,311 transport flights and completed 995,000 passenger throughput, including 3,871 transport flights and 121,000 passenger throughput in 2020. It has successively opened and operated routes from Alshaa Left Banner to Xi'an, Tianjin, Chongqing, Lanzhou, Yinchuan, Zhongwei, Hohhot, Baotou, Erdos, Alshaa Right Banner and Ejine Banner. 

In 2020, the five routes operated involved six destinations in Xi'an, Tianjin, Hohhot, Baotou, Alshaa Right Banner and Ejine Banner.
