Wu Xiangrong, along with thousands of resilient "desert guardians", has transformed Alshaa League in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, into a radiant gem amidst the desert.
Their unwavering commitment has yielded remarkable results. The ecological environment in Alshaa has been greatly improved. The forest coverage increased from 2.96 percent at the beginning of the league's founding to 8.37 percent, and the grassland vegetation coverage increased from less than 15 percent to 23.18 percent.
In the past decade, Inner Mongolia has adhered to the integrated conservation and systematic management of mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes, grasslands, and deserts. It has accumulatively prevented and controlled 138 million mu (9.2 million hectares) of desertification.
