Baotou promotes low-altitude economy
The founding conference of the Baotou low-altitude economy industry-education consortium was held in Baotou on Jan 16. Experts in the national aviation sector and representatives selected from among 69 consortium members gathered to witness its launch.
The platform, initiated by Baotou Iron and Steel Vocational Technical College, the Shiguai district people's government, and Geovis Technology Co, brings together government, enterprises, and educational institutions with a clear goal: to truly make the low-altitude economy "take off" in Baotou.
A key focus of the consortium is talent development. Baotou Iron and Steel Vocational Technical College will begin adjusting its majors in 2026 and focus on developing three to four low-altitude economy-related majors within the next five years. This means that in three years, Baotou will be home to a number of professionally trained talents, including drone pilots, drone engineers, and low-altitude operation managers.
More importantly, with the participation of industry giants such as Geovis in co-developing the majors, cutting-edge information and technologies can be brought directly into the classroom. Students will go beyond textbook learning, engaging directly with advanced technologies used in real-world enterprises.
Shiguai district, utilizing its abundance of low-altitude resources, such as the Wudangzhao General Airport, is building Inner Mongolia autonomous region's largest UAV pilot training and license examination base, as well as a low-altitude economy flight base. The Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner also plays a pivotal role, with 5,000 square kilometers of airspace fully opened and China's first unmanned intelligent system research and training base put into operation. Students in Baotou can now put theoretical knowledge into real flight practice right away.
The establishment of the consortium has completed a closed loop for talent development, providing practical scenarios, advanced technologies, and job opportunities for students – injecting new vitality into the vast skies of Baotou.
