Mandula Port sets new record in cargo throughput

Updated: 2026-02-09

As of Jan 31 this year, cargo throughput at Mandula Port has reached 1.26 million metric tons, a year-on-year increase of 147 percent. The daily maximum cargo throughput hit 65,900 tons, with both daily and monthly cargo throughput setting record highs for the same period.

Mandula Port is one of China's most important land ports to Mongolia. It mainly imports mineral resources such as coal and ore, and its export cargo includes large complete sets of equipment, heavy-duty trucks, tractors and more.

"Since the start of this year, the port's average daily cargo throughput has remained above 48,000 tons. Such efficient operation was made possible by innovations in customs supervision models and the active coordination of all relevant departments," said Wang Fuguang, a representative of Baotou Customs.

Baotou Customs has advanced the development of a smart customs system, improving regulatory efficiency through technological means to ensure the efficient operation of the port. The port completed the full maintenance and upgrading of its regulatory facilities in 2026, including an intelligent gate system and large H986 container inspection equipment, enabling the regular operation of rapid cargo clearance and release.

In response to the higher demand for energy resources during winter, Baotou Customs has established a green channel for the import of energy and mineral resources, implementing priority inspections and rapid verification of bulk commodities, including coal and ore. Since January 2026, over 1.2 million tons of coal have been imported through Mandula Port, with the implementation of immediate inspection upon arrival and release upon qualification, which has helped ensure an adequate winter energy supply.

In 2026, Mandula Port will launch a new round of infrastructure upgrades and expansion projects to raise annual cargo throughput, while the customs department will continue to deepen business reforms and explore a new regulatory "smart customs, smart borders, and smart connectivity" model.
