Baotou company makes steel forging breakthrough
Inner Mongolia North Heavy Industry Group Co in Baotou has produced a 17-meter ultra-long, ultra-high-pressure steel pipe, marking the first of its kind in China.
Ultra-high-pressure steel pipes must withstand pressures of 250 to 350 MPa and temperatures of approximately 300 C to maintain lengths exceeding 17 m without deformation, a manufacturing difficulty known as the "ultimate challenge of steel forging".
The technology for ultra-long, ultra-high-pressure steel pipes over 10 m in length has long been monopolized by foreign countries. Since 2012, a research team at North Heavy Industry has spent 13 years developing 17-m ultra-long, ultra-high-pressure steel pipes and can now produce them in mass.
This product is primarily used to transport high-temperature, high-pressure, flammable, and explosive petroleum, natural gas, and chemical materials, playing a significant role in accelerating the rapid development of China's petrochemical industry.
