Baotou is excelling in the development of green energy, with among the highest concentrations of new energy industries of any city in China. In 2023, it was awarded the title of "World Green Silicon Capital".

Since 2022, the output value of the crystalline silicon photovoltaic industry has exceeded 100 billion yuan ($14.04 billion) for three consecutive years, serving as a significant driver of local economic growth.

With abundant resources, a strong industrial foundation, and advantages when it comes to the production of green electricity, Baotou has become a major player in the crystalline silicon photovoltaic industry. Baotou's industrial park is well-planned, attracting top global photovoltaic companies.

Baotou has established production capacities, including 450,000 metric tons of industrial silicon, 820,000 tons of polysilicon, 253.8 gigawatt of monocrystalline silicon, 47 GW of wafers, and 16 GW of modules. Supporting projects such as crucibles, frames, and brackets have been completed, with a local product supporting rate exceeding 65 percent.

Baotou has developed an innovation system thoroughly integrating production, education, research, and application. It collaborated with Zhejiang University to establish the "Zhejiang University-Baotou Silicon Materials Joint Research Center", set up a photovoltaic industry metrology and testing center, and established a silicon industry academy.

Baotou plans to expand its industrial scale while accelerating the application of photovoltaics in multiple scenarios and advancing the development of next-generation photovoltaic technologies. Baotou will strengthen institutional support, creating a high-quality business environment and providing excellent service support.
