Sports transform education in Donghe district

Updated: 2025-07-24

Donghe district in Baotou city has revolutionized physical education through its innovative initiative of weekly activities and monthly competitions, with all 31 schools now offering tailored sports programs. At Dongyilu Primary School's recent jump rope championship, 224 students from 16 classes embodied the district's athletic transformation.

The reforms guarantee 145 minutes of daily activity through extended recesses and elective sports classes. Schools have creatively maximized space by converting corridors into "micro playgrounds" while partnering with local community gyms. Professional training for 48 newly recruited coaches has elevated performance, as the district now leads regional fitness metrics with 48.3 percent of students achieving excellent physical health.

"Sports develop both strong bodies and resilient minds," said Gao Jun, director of Donghe district education bureau, noting a 15 percent rise in mental health indicators. From volleyball championships to breaking track records, Donghe's student athletes prove that investment in physical education yields lifelong dividends.
