Baotou's agricultural labor force maintains stable development

Updated: 2025-07-24

A comprehensive survey conducted by the Baotou statistical bureau across five counties reveals that the city's agricultural workforce remains stable, with distinct regional characteristics. The study shows 56.5 percent of laborers primarily engage in growing crops such as wheat, corn and potatoes, while 35.1 percent combine crop cultivation with livestock breeding.

The survey highlights that over 70 percent of households continue traditional family-contracted land operations, with only 5.1 percent participating in cooperative production. While 60 percent of agricultural families experience seasonal downtime, most show limited interest in seeking temporary urban employment during off-seasons.

Facing an aging rural workforce, agricultural experts recommend establishing entrepreneurial platforms, enhancing vocational training programs, and improving income potential to attract and retain skilled laborers. These findings provide valuable insights for Baotou's ongoing rural vitalization efforts and agricultural modernization strategies.
