Darhan-Muminggan Joint Banner employs drones for grassland ecological monitoring
Darhan-Muminggan Joint Banner has introduced drones to enhance the protection of its vast grasslands, which cover an area of 23.41 million mu (1.56 million hectares). The unmanned aircraft are equipped with AI-powered visual recognition to monitor livestock numbers and identify violations in grazing-restricted areas, overcoming challenges such as remote terrain and inefficient manual patrols.
A total of 14 DJI drones have been deployed across 12 townships, supporting grazing bans and fire prevention. The system enables real-time data transmission and remote supervision, significantly improving monitoring efficiency and accuracy. Additionally, 149 grassland rangers have been tasked with conducting grid-based inspections, forming a comprehensive supervision network.
This innovative approach modernizes grassland management, combining regular and surprise inspections with cross-zone enforcement to strengthen ecological conservation in northern China.
