Baotou's regional brands gain national recognition

The Chinese Agri-product Marketing Association released the 2024 list of China's Regional Public Agricultural Brands on Nov 21, with two standout names from Baotou – Damao Grassland Lamb and Guyang Astragalus – making the list, highlighting the city's successes in utilizing geographic and agricultural advantages to build powerful brands.

With strong backing from the local government and agricultural departments, Damao Grassland Lamb has become a symbol of high-quality livestock. In 2023, its registered trademark brand value reached 3.08 billion yuan ($428.12 million). This year, 23 enterprises have been authorized to use the brand.

Damao Banner's agriculture and animal husbandry bureau has further expanded visibility through media events, expos, and competitions, driving its transformation from traditional pastoralism to a branded, high-value industry.

Guyang county, known as China's northern capital of astragalus, has elevated its prized herb into the national "medicine and food homology" catalog. This breakthrough has paved the way for Guyang astragalus to transition from a raw material to a diversified, value-added industry.

Over 100 product types in seven major categories – ranging from wines and cosmetics to teas and health supplements – have been developed, making Guyang astragalus a key driver of rural vitalization and economic growth.
