Residents benefit from county-level medical consortia

Updated: 2024-11-20

Baotou government hosted a site exchange meeting on Nov 19 regarding the construction of a compact county-level medical consortium in Guyang county. The meeting was attended by over 60 officials from the municipal health commission, finance bureau, medical insurance bureau, and other departments.

"Compact county-level medical consortia are a key policy in bringing high-quality healthcare closer to residents, ensuring they can receive excellent local care," explained Wang Yan, director of the Guyang county health commission. "The goal is for people to access nearby treatment, receive better care, make efficient use of medical insurance funds, and improve medical staff salaries."

To locally assist patients with common, chronic, or frequently occurring conditions, the county has concentrated on attracting healthcare talent, upgrading facilities and equipment, and providing high-quality services. Efforts aim to improve the local medical system, service capacity, resource utilization, and the integration of preventive and clinical care.

At the consortium management center, the county-level medical consortium data monitoring platform provides real-time insights into patient visits, chronic disease management, and hospital admissions. Guyang has 94 consortium member units, a resident population of 115,300, and 589 health staff members. Ten health centers and one secondary hospital are fully networked, allowing direct access to operational indicators, rational drug use, and clinical procedures, supporting data-driven decision-making.

Unified drug catalogs now enable residents to access medications that were previously limited to higher-level hospitals, reducing waste and improving availability. Shared diagnostic services for ECGs, imaging, and other tests minimize duplication, centralize interpretation, and standardize care, saving both time and resources.
